Prompt: dec 19: snowy village
Summary: Laura sees a snow globe at a Christmas market which reminds her of her old home.
Laura could scarcely credit it. She stared, blinked shook her head as if to dispel the fog within, then stared again.
Dumbfounded.
Found dumb.
People were walking around her, talking about her, it was a Christmas market, after all, less than a week before the holiday itself, but she was frozen, suspended, silent.
She was momentarily but wholly lost in the miniature world represented inside one of the many snow globes on display at a market stall. She had strolled by many such stalls, but the wares of this one had caught her by the throat, one particular ware, in fact.
Inside the globe was a tiny castle.
It was her schloss, her beloved home, which, for many years, she had only seen in her dreams. Somehow a craftsman had rendered it perfectly scaled so it could fit in the palms of two cupped hands. Surely, the person must’ve known her part of Styria, visited it. It was too accurate in its details to be otherwise.
“How much?” she asked sensing rather than seeing a figure approach, knowing she would pay whatever sum was asked.
Then she heard a voice chilled her to the very bone.
“For you, Laura, nothing.”
