Snow had settled into the small town like it meant to stay. Roofs were white, hedges rounded, windows trimmed with soft gold light. Wreaths hung from every door. Someone had charmed the lampposts to glow a patient blue.
Ginny walked with her hands in Luna’s pockets, fingers warm there. Luna did not mind. She never did.
The river cut through the town in a clean curve, wide and slow, its surface shining an impossible blue beneath the ice. It carried old magic. Everyone said so. No one agreed what kind.
“It feels kind,” Ginny said, stopping at the bridge.
“Most things are,” Luna replied, peering down. “If you listen first.”
Snowflakes caught in Luna’s hair. Ginny brushed them away and leaned in, forehead to forehead. The town rang with distant laughter, bells, the hush of falling snow.
The river moved on. The lights stayed lit. Ginny kissed Luna, and the night held them, steady and sure.
