Ginny was half way through hanging tinsel when Luna burst through the Burrow’s back door, cheeks pink from the cold and her eyes bright with mischief.

"I saw Santa in the village," Luna announced. "They were carrying a puppy. Right?"

Ginny blinked. "A real Santa? And a real puppy? Luna?"

"Oh yes," Luna said, stepping closer. "But they said the puppy wasn’t for them. It was for someone brave, kind, and terribly in need of unexpected joy."

Ginny felt her breath catch as Luna placed a warm, wriggling bundle in her arms.

"Merry Christmas, Ginny," Luna whispered. "They meant you."
