"Wow. That's..." Davy tilted his head, trying to find something positive to say. "That's quite a gingerbread house you've got there, Peter."
The gingerbread house barely earned that name. It was tilted, crumbling in many places. The ceiling had sagged, with a chimney that scarcely jutted upward.
As much as Davy didn't want to say what he thought, he had a strong feeling that this particular house, had it been real, would've been condemned years ago.
Peter looked equally deflated as he regarded his rather dubious accomplishment. "I wanted it to look really nice," he sighed. "But I guess the gingerbread was a little too moist, because it just didn't want to hold together. And the icing was too dry; I almost couldn't spread it, it was so crumbly. It was supposed to be a beautiful cottage." He waved helplessly at his construction work. "And all I managed to make was a broken-down hovel."
Davy did his best to offer his friend an encouraging smile. "Don't be so down in the dumps. Maybe it didn't turn out to be structurally sound, but I'm sure it'll taste great!"
"I wouldn't be too sure about that," Peter warned, waving him away from taking a chunk to nibble on. "When the icing wouldn't stick, I had to settle for glue."
