"Don't you think it's a little early to be planning our Christmas meal," Rachel wondered idly, as the gang all sat poring through countless cookbooks and recipe magazines.
Monica stared at her with an isn't it obvious look in her eyes. "There's no such thing as too early, when you're doing holiday meal planning. I need to know exactly what groceries we're going to need, before I can even begin to think of putting together a completed grocery list. Do you really think that it all just happens?"
Rachel suddenly felt a bit afraid to meet her gaze. "No," she mumbled, intimidated.
Over in the armchair, Ross snorted. "Come on, Rach; you've known our family for too long. I really think you know us better than that."
"I need to know what main course to serve," Monica continued. "And what side dishes, along with what type of wine to go with everything. I need some kind of vegetarian option for Phoebe."
"Thank you," Phoebe smugly simpered from the sofa, thumbing through a baking magazine eagerly. "Vegetarians are people, too!"
"Which means that I may or may not need a second kind of wine to go with that, depending on whether or not it clashes with what the rest of us are having. And then I need some kind of a dessert. Any ideas, anybody?"
"A doughnut cake," Joey volunteered, raising his hand and waving it like a student in school who knew all the answers. "With maple glaze, and crumbled bacon on top! That'd be awesome!" His excitement faded swiftly, however, when he found himself on the receiving end of a hostile stare from Phoebe. "On second thought, maybe that thought sucks," he concluded, cowed, and feeling like he could smack himself upside the head for letting such a foolish thing come out of his mouth.
Chandler looked up from the cookbook that he'd been engrossed in. "What about a dessert pizza," he suggested. He held up the book, showing a two-page spread photograph. In the photo, there was displayed a pan of brownies cut out to resemble a Christmas tree. Various candies and nuts had been chopped up, and sprinkled across its surface, held in place by thin streams of caramel and chocolate topping. "It's festive, it's fun, it's delicious, and nobody gets offended," he added in Phoebe's general direction. "Plus, we can have a few of those gelt chocolate coins sprinkled around it for Hanukkah."
The others all exchanged intrigued looks.
"Okay. Show of hands: Who votes for Chandler's dessert pizza," Monica asked. When everyone lifted a hand, she grinned at him. "Looks like we've got a winner!"
