Title: 'Boys Will Be Boys'
Fandom: The Monkees
Characters: Mike Nesmith, Peter Tork, Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones, Henry Babbitt
Rating: G
"Guys," Mike called, up to his elbows in tape and ribbon, "I think wrappin' Christmas presents would be a little easier if I had some more help!"
When his griping went ignored, Peter smiled. "It's no use," he informed his friend. "Put those two near anything bearing even a faint resemblance to swords, and they go temporarily insane."
If anything, that was putting things mildly. Micky and Davy had each commandeered a roll of wrapping paper. Now, they were chasing each other around the Pad, each doing their best to out-melodrama the other as they used the rolls as makeshift weapons.
"Pick on someone your own size," Davy shouted, currently in the position of the chasee.
His chaser, Micky, wielded a roll of candy cane striped paper overhead in both hands. "Stand and face me, O coward of tiny proportions!"
"Never! Giant of fell intent, you'll never take me alive!"
Yanking the front door open, Davy hid behind it, just as Micky swung his paper...
...directly on top of Babbitt as he walked through the door. Stunned, the landlord staggered in place, wobbling unsteadily from the unexpected clobbering.
Letting go of the paper roll, a now panicking Micky fled for the back patio, and down to the beach. As Davy continued to cower behind the door, and a flummoxed Mike watched, Peter quickly rose to settle matters.
"I'm terribly sorry, sir," he began, flashing his sunniest smile. "You know what children are like during the holidays." Gently, he guided Babbitt back outside. "They get excited, and they forget how to think clearly. No harm was meant, I promise."
"Think...nothing of it," Babbitt responded, still dazed. "Boys...will be...boys...I suppose..."
He wandered away vaguely, in no particular direction, as Peter gently eased the door closed behind him.
Mike rose, applauding. "Peter, I gotta hand it to you. You'd make one heck of a diplomat at the UN."
