adventdrabbles day 19 prompt: spying on Santa
Summary: SUGA & j-hope say 'no gifts' this Christmas, but...
“Holly, I’m home!”
Holly appeared from behind the Christmas tree. He trotted toward the front door with a small sleek black bag in his mouth.
“What’s this?” asked Yoongi. He knelt beside Holly and took the bag and studied it. It was sealed tight. The logo on the side indicated it was from a very high-end jewelry store. “There’s no tag. Where did you get this?”
Holly whined and trotted back to the tree. Yoongi followed.
“Your little hiding spot. But who is it from and where did you get it? Should I look inside?”
Woof!
“No? Oh.” Yoongi sighed. “It’s from Hobi, isn’t it?”
Holly whimpered.
“Damn it, Jung Hoseok,” muttered Yoongi. “We specifically said ‘no gifts,’ but of course, you can’t do that. You’ve got to go out and get me something expensive for Christmas. What, did he hide it there so I wouldn’t find it?”
Woof!
“And you’ve been spying on Santa. Santa Hobi. Sneaky squirrel hiding his nut! Well, I suppose I’m going to have to get something for him.”
Woof!
---
“Hey pupper, ready for supper?” called Hoseok. “Yoongi is going to be late tonight, so you’re stuck with Uncle Hobi! Not a bad thing, right?”
Holly woofed. He scurried behind the tree and reappeared with the bag in his mouth.
“Hey, what’s that? Where did you get that? Let me see, big boy.”
Hoseok took the bag.
“Huh. Min Fucking Yoongi. Whatever it is, it’s probably gorgeous. I’m going to love it. Ugh. For once, I believed him when he said, ‘no gifts.’ Fool me once! All right, all right, put this back, puppers, message received. Thank you for being Uncle Hobi, no, Santa Hobi’s secret spy.”
---
“Merry Christmas, Hob-ah.”
“Merry Christmas, Yoongi.”
They looked at each other, smiling.
Woof! Woof!
“Oh, Merry Christmas, Holly.”
“Merry Christmas, Holly.”
“So.”
“So.”
“I know we said, ‘no gifts,’” began Yoongi.
“We definitely said, ‘no gifts,’ Yoongs. You were the one who said it first.”
“Yeah, I know. It’s been such a crazy year…”
“Yoongs, you shouldn’t have.”
“Wait, let me get it.”
Yoongi disappeared into the bedroom and returned carrying a very large, heavy box.
Hoseok stared in silence.
“Um,” said Yoongi, setting the box down on the coffee table.
“A waffle maker?”
“Yeah, well, you know, you like waffles, and you don’t have one. Um. Not the most romantic or sophisticated gift but…”
“Oh!” Hoseok snapped out of his fog and plastered a forced smile on his face. “No, no, it’s great. Thank you.”
“Um. Okay.”
“And I got something for you, too,” said Hoseok quickly. He went to the closet and returned.
“A coat?!”
Hoseok held the garment on the hanger up with one hand and smoothed the other down the dark wool.
“Yeah, I saw it and I thought of you.”
“Oh. Well. It’s very handsome.”
“Just like you.”
“Oh, well, um. Thank you.”
“I’ll just put it back in the closet, yeah?”
“Yeah, it’s great.”
“And I think I’ll take my waffle maker home right now and try it out.”
“Right now? You don’t want to…”
“No, I think I’m going to, uh, go. We’ve got schedule tomorrow.”
“Not until two.”
“Yeah, but I’ve got some things I need to do.”
“Oh, okay.”
---
Hobi drove home, occasionally stealing glances at the waffle maker in the passenger seat.
It’s cool. I’m not going to overthink it. He’s buying jewelry for someone else. Maybe his mother, maybe someone else, who knows. He’s buying someone else jewelry and me kitchen appliances, but it’s cool, it’s a nice waffle maker. I do love waffles. But we said, ‘no gifts.’ So why did he give me this damn waffle maker if someone else is getting jewelry?
---
“It’s a nice coat,” said Yoongi to the television. “It just doesn’t make sense. Why in the hell would he hide a gift in my house if it wasn’t for me? And what’s up with the fucking coat? And why did I buy him a waffle maker? This is why I said, ‘no gifts’; it’s too fucking confusing.”
Holly trotted out with the black bag in his mouth.
“Oh, shit,” said Yoongi. “Just when things couldn’t get more awkward.”
---
“Um, Hob-ah.”
“Yeah?”
“I’ve got your gift.”
“What gift?”
“The one you forgot?”
“I’ve got the damn waffle maker right here, Yoongs.”
“No, um, the one for your friend or, you know, whoever.”
“No, I don’t know. What is it?”
“I don’t know. I’m not going to open it. It’s not mine.”
“What do you mean it isn’t yours? I don’t understand, Yoongi. What does the gift look like?”
“It’s in a little black bag.”
“That’s not mine. It’s yours.”
“It’s not mine.”
Woof! Woof!
“The black bag isn’t yours?” said Hoseok.
“No, it’s yours, right?”
“No.”
Silence.
“Open it,” said Hoseok.
Yoongi opened it. “Oh my god.” He bent his head and sniffed.
“What is it?”
“Dog biscuits.”
“WHAT?!”
“Hold on, I just got a message from Joon, subject, Holly’s Xmas gift.”
Hey Yoongi, with everything going on, I forgot to tell you I left something at your place. Before he enlisted, Seokjin wanted to give Holly one last treat, so he baked these special dog cookies, and he gave them to me to give to you because I was dropping that equipment off. I didn’t really have any special bag, so I just put it whatever, heh, hope he likes them.

And Holly of course is like, “Feed me now!” Not caring about the chaos.
*sigh*
As well. At least Hobi will have yummy waffles and Yoongi will have a sharp coat. 🙄

Yes, it all ended okay. I may use today's prompt and write a soft ending to it on the sope side.
