She sits back in her seat, watching the snowy scenery go by. Below, the wheels of the train clatter along. Every car has been decorated, lights and winter greenery all throughout, lending a beautiful, festive glow.
This was a fun idea. Unique. She's never been on a train, and therefore certainly never celebrated the New Year in such a fashion.
A champagne flute is in her hand--filled with sparkling cider. Others might be celebrating with something stronger, but she's never cared for the stuff. The bubbles in the cider glitter just as prettily.
Elsewhere, she can hear other passengers counting down. So strange, she thinks, to wake up one day and have it be one year, then go to bed hours later in a different year entirely.
She hopes it will be a happy one.
