Title: Puppies and Champagne
Fandom: BTS
Characters: Suga, J-hope, Min Holly
Rating: Gen
Summary: Hobi builds a little train for Holly around the Christmas tree. Yoongi grumbles.
Yoongi thought he heard a noise in the other room. He slid off the headphones, leaned back in the chair, and listened. He heard it again.
Suspicious.
“What are you doing, Holly? Are you into something you shouldn’t be? Holly!”
There was a pregnant silence, then the patter of paws.
“Hey, you,” said Yoongi, giving Holly scritches, “what mess have you made now?”
But just then, Yoongi heard another noise, louder and more worrying.
“Oh damn,” said Yoongi, “I’m sorry. It isn’t you. Uncle Hobi is up to something.”
Yoongi stood. “I thought decorating the Christmas tree would keep him out of trouble for the rest of the day.”
Yoongi paused in the threshold.
“Hobi!”
Hobi froze.
“What is this?!” asked Yoongi, exasperation growing as his eyes followed a wide sturdy train track around the perimeter of living room. It looped back around the fully decorated Christmas tree then ran out the other door to the kitchen.
“I saw it on the internet. It looked cute.”
“I’m taking away your wifi,” grumbled Yoongi. “And your black card.”
“Try it, short stuff,” countered Hobi. Then he smiled sunnily. “It’s a toy train set.”
“It looks big for a toy.”
“It’s for Holly.”
“Because every poodle needs an indoor locomotive!”
“Don’t be a grinch, Yoongi.”
“’Don’t be a grinch, Yoongi!’” he mimicked dryly as he stepped into the room, bending his knees and raising his feet high to avoid stepping on the track. “I said ‘okay’ to the Christmas lights that blink and play carols—which I hate, by the way—and leaving milk and biscuits—”
“Cookies. Shooky’s cookies. ARMY recipe. Most toothsome.”
“—cookies, whatever—out for Santa—which I don’t believe in! And now because I make one objection to my house being turned into Grand Central Station, and, for that, I’m a grinch.”
“Silly, Yoongi. The station is here.” Hobi waved at the platform beneath the tree. He laid down the screwdriver in his hand and set a sturdy cart carefully on the tracks.
“Come, Holly, let’s give it a test run.”
Holly ran into the room, and Hobi scooped him up and set him in the cart.
“HOBI!”
“Here,” said Hobi curtly. He produced a bottle from out of nowhere and offered it to Yoongi. “Merry Christmas.”
Yoongi bent low, the better to study the bottle, but he didn’t take it. Yet.
“Are you trying to soften me with very expensive champagne, Jung Hoseok?”
Hobi looked up at him with round, soft eyes. “Is it working, Min Yoongi?”
“Oh, no!” protested Min Yoongi, standing up and waving his hands. “There’s only room for one set of puppy eyes in this household. Put those away.” He snatched the bottle by the neck and said, begrudgingly, “Thanks. Merry Christmas.”
Hobi immediately turned to Holly. “Ready?”
Holly woofed.
Hobi snapped Holly’s seatbelt, then pressed a button on a control.
The cart bolded forward and proceeded to make its way along track.
Hobi grinned. “It works! It works! Go, Holly go!”
“Wow,” said Yoongi as Holly rounded the tree. “You okay, pup?”
“Woof!”
Yoongi followed Holly in the cart as he left the room. “Hobi! You did not make a roller coaster in my kitchen!”
“Just a small one.” Hobi got to his feet and joined Yoongi. He put his arm around Yoongi’s shoulder. “Admit it. It’s cute.”
“I admit nothing!” protested Yoongi as Holly passed beneath them, the train tooting cheerfully. “It’s ridiculous!”
“Do you want me to post a story of it on your Instagram?”
Yoongi rolled his eyes. “Yes.”
Hobi wrapped his arms around Yoongi’s torso and squeezed. “God bless us every one!”

Date: 2021-12-29 01:19 am (UTC)Yoongi might as well give in. Between Hobi’s puppy eyes and Holly’s, he’s got no chance.
And I love the begrudging “yes” in response to Hobi’s offer to post it to the gram. *g*
Too cute!
