"Are you cold," I ask him when I see him sitting outside by himself. He ought to be; it's been snowing solidly for at least an hour.
He gazes at the sky, as though in a dream. Still, he answers: "I'm alright. I'm just watching the snow. It's more fascinating when you're out among the flakes, than just watching through a pane of glass. Don't worry about me."
But he's got to be freezing. I go inside, gathering a few things, before coming and sitting beside him.
"Here," I say, pushing a mug of coffee into his hands. As he drinks, I wrap a scarf around his neck, and a blanket around us both. "Just to make sure you don't turn into an ice statue."
He chuckles as I lay my head on his shoulder. "Your company is warmer than anything you could bring out."
Together we sit in quiet, enjoying the snowfall.
