Title: 'Kip's Menorah'
Fandom: Friends
Characters: Chandler Bing, Ross Geller
Rating: G
Surprised to see Ross' name come up on his cell phone's caller ID, Chandler picked up. "Hey, buddy. What's up? You want to come over for a while?"
"I can't, right now," Ross responded, "but maybe later this evening. I'm in the middle of my holiday shopping just now. I am, too," he suddenly shouted at somebody on his end of the line. A garbled, slightly echoing argument ensued, culminating in Ross sighing frustratedly. "Fine. The nosy teenager at the next urinal wants me to tell you that, specifically, I'm in the men's room at the department store. Taking a short break, I might add, while doing my holiday shopping."
"Wow." Chandler laughed, holding in a snort. "I'm glad you didn't tell me that under your own initiative. Anyway, what else is new?"
"I was wondering if you could do me a favor. You remember Kip?"
Chandler shrugged, paying no heed to the fact that nobody was around to see him make the gesture. "My roommate before Joey moved in, who somehow forgot to take his menorah with him when he moved out? Yeah, the name rings a bell. Why do you ask?"
"Actually, it's on account of Kip's menorah that I'm calling. You wouldn't still have it, by any chance, would you?"
"Huh. That's an interesting question." Chandler racked his brains for a minute, trying to remember. "I haven't seen that thing since that one blackout we had a few years back. It might be around here somewhere; maybe in the storage room in the basement. Why?"
"Well, ever since you helped me get Ben to listen when I was teaching him about Hanukkah, he's taken a real interest in Judaism."
"That's great," Chandler enthused. "I'm glad he's getting in touch with that part of his heritage."
"Me, too. So I was thinking that, if you still have Kip's menorah, maybe I could give it to him," Ross explained. "That way, if he's not staying with me over Hanukkah, then he'll be still able to celebrate at Carol and Susan's place."
"Cool. Sure; I'll look around, and see if I can't dig it up for you. If I find it while you're still out shopping, I'll give you a call. Then you can stop by on your way home and pick it up."
"Thanks a lot," Ross replied, sounding relieved and happy. "I really appreciate it."
"Anytime; I'm glad to help. Talk to you later."
