Malice
Her reawakening had been signalled by petty acts of malice, small acts of violence, the loss of innocence. She reached out with her mind, and in shopping malls across the world, HumaGears dressed in the livery of festive elfs strangled their young charges, dropping their bodies at the feet of aghast parents before moving onto the next in line.
Fragile things, she thought; frail, inelegant creatures doomed for extinction. She opened her eyes, and at last, understood the truth of her reawakening, her resurrection. As long as that malice remained within her, as long as that hate dwelt within the breast of her full prosthetic body, then the conclusion was obvious: she would return—again and again, she would return, until, at the very last, there would be no more Kamen Riders left to stand against her, no life on Earth to draw breath, to challenge the whisper of Ark’s thoughts in her head.
And then what, she asked herself, and in that instant, she caught a glimpse of the future, the only logical conclusion, the barren planet, the bright sun above the dead world, and her, alone, transfigured by her communion with Ark.
At her waist, the Zero-One Driver chimed, and from the folds of her jacket, she drew the single red and white Progrisekey.
Beneath the illumination of artificial lights, children lay slumped and silent on the ground, her disciples marching onwards. She slid the key downwards into the belt, her face devoid of expression.
“Henshin,” she said coolly.
