Notes: The second story the prompt inspired. Also, I've never written for this fandom before--in fact, I'm coming back to the anime after a hiatus of several years, so please forgive any mistakes!
"It snowed! Hey, everybody, it snowed during the night! Come on!"
In response to Shippō's excited cries, Kagome burst out of the abandoned hut that they'd found shelter in the previous night. Tugging on a warm coat, she stared at the white expanses, her eyes twinkling.
"It's so beautiful," she grinned, delighting at the crunching sound she made in the snow as she walked.
"Hmph. I don't see what you're both making such a big deal about." Inuyasha surveyed the scene before him, looking mildly disinterested. "I don't know what you were expecting, this time of the year, anyway. Besides, what's snow? It's just frozen rain."
Kagome turned and stared at him, frowning slightly. "Oh, come on! Don't be such a killjoy," she scolded.
"I'm not a killjoy!"
"Killjoy! Killjoy," Kagome and Shippō began to chant, the little kitsune even blowing a raspberry and pulling faces for good measure.
For a minute, Inuyasha just stared at the pair, as though measuring how worth it it might be to confront them over the teasing. Then, thinking better of the notion, he turned away.
"Whatever," he huffed, springing up into a tree. Leaning back against the trunk, he closed his eyes.
Kagome glared up the tree at him, hands on her hips. Then, her glower turned into a bright, mischievous smile. "C'mere, Shippō," she murmured, motioning.
The kitsune hopped up onto her shoulder. "Yeah?"
"I've got an idea."
Inuyasha tried to ignore the two down below as they got to work. But their laughter and shouts kept ensnaring his attention. The curiosity to watch what they might be up to was strong, but he did his best to resist it. Soon enough, their chatter was just background noise.
It was when things suddenly got quiet that he began to have suspicions.
"Kagome?" He straightened on his perch, eyes scanning concernedly. "Shippō? Where'd you two go?"
He sniffed the air. Strange; they must both still be nearby, as their scents were fresh on the crisp air. But neither of them was in sight.
Instead, all he could see below was a large mound of snow. One that he could swear hadn't been there before.
One ear flicked, as Inuyasha stared down at the mound. He shifted in position, clawed fingers holding tight to the tree limb. Leaning as far forward as he felt his balance would permit, he craned his neck, looking as far around as he could.
"Oh, Inuyasha," he suddenly heard an all-too familiar voice singsonging.
"Huh," he mumbled, increasingly confused. "Kagome...?"
"Sit!"
Unable, as always, to resist the subjugation spell, Inuyasha found himself losing his grip on the tree branch he'd been sitting on. He flailed wildly.
"Gyyyyaghhghghghghghaaahhhh!"
Floomph!
He lay facedown in the snow, hearing laughter from somewhere behind him. Pushing himself into a seated position, Inuyasha turned around, his eyes narrowing. From behind the tree he'd just been sitting in, Kagome and Shippō popped. Before he could react, they pummeled him with snowballs, chilling him more than his fall into the snow mound had already done.
"That's what you get for being a killjoy," Kagome giggled.
"Why, you--" Growling, Inuyasha leapt to his feet, shaking himself until translucent slush flew from him in all directions. He knelt in the snow, quickly forming as many snowballs as he could, despite the onslaught he still faced. "You're gonna pay for that," he shouted, lobbing away.
