Title: 'Snooters'
Fandom: Doctor Who
Characters: The Doctor, unspecified companion
Rating: G
"I sure never expected to see so many tourists on Candy Cane Lane," I said, looking around. "Especially sick ones."
"They're tourists," the Doctor agreed, "but they're not sick."
"Okay. So why are they wearing medical masks," I asked, doing my best to subtly motion.
"They'd give themselves away as aliens."
I stopped short, turning to stare at him. "They're aliens?"
"Snooters, to be specific. Wanting to experience an Earth Christmas."
"Huh. That's fair enough, then, I imagine. But what's with the masks?"
"I'll show you," he told me, dragging me along to follow a small cluster of masked aliens that had broken off separately. He cupped his hands around his mouth. "Snootasnootasnoota!"
In unison, the group turned and hooted back: "Snootasnoota!"
I was staring again. I couldn't help it. As they snootaed, their masks flipped up. In the place of the nose and mouth I'd been expecting, they had elephant-like trunks that extended. They quickly receded, the masks snapping back into place. Looking around fervently, the Snooters hurriedly raced away before anyone could see what the odd racket was about.
"Snooters," I murmured, unable to believe what I'd just witnessed. "Well, I guess I've seen weirder things."
