River discovered to her delight, when the Doctor picked her up from Stormcage, that he had arranged for an advent calendar of sorts for her to enjoy. There was a large box in the TARDIS console room with two dozen drawers in it. In each was an image of a destination that he planned to take her on.
Yesterday, they had lounged on a sandy beach in Hawaii, taking in the bizarre but charming sight of palm trees decorated for Christmastime. The day before, he had taken her to the crystal forests of Zobiii.
Now, they were riding on horseback through snowy mountain passes. Above were billions of dazzling stars; the minor planet of Asherforth was located in a region of new star birth in the Kitiki Galaxy.
She grinned across to the Doctor. "And what's on the agenda for tomorrow," she asked.
The Doctor's joy-filled eyes glittered more than the stars. "Spoilers," he told her with a wink. "You'll love it, though, I promise you. And no fair trying to look ahead--that advent calendar of yours has been rigged. Try to peek ahead, and there'll be consequences."
River didn't bother telling him that she'd already made an attempt, only to be thwarted when the TARDIS had built up an impenetrable wall around the advent calendar.
"Duly noted, sweetie," she said instead.
