I gazed in wonder as we walked through the Holiday House in the main city of the double planet of Yoo'ok. It smelled divine, like all of the coziness of Christmastime baking I'd ever encountered, packed firmly into a single structure.
"I'm impressed," I declared. "This house is so realistic! It looks like actual gingerbread."
The Doctor grinned at me. "That's because it is."
I spun to face him, nearly knocking down a nearby pole lamp. "What?!"
"When the people of Yoo'ok celebrate Christmas," he proceeded to inform me, "they truly go all-out. This house is completely constructed from gingerbread biscuits, held together with the strongest possible frosting." He nodded toward a nearby window. "Sugar panels, too."
"But...but this is as structurally sound as any house I've ever been in," I anxiously protested. "Isn't it?"
He shook his head. "Not necessarily by everybody's standards."
"So...what, then? Can we actually eat this building as we tour it?"
"Of course not," the Doctor playfully scolded, smacking my hand as I reached for a bit of icing curtain. "That'd be rude. They dismantle it on Christmas Day, though, and everyone on Yoo'ok gets a share. Including visitors," he said, winking.
