Title: 'Give A Little'
Fandom: The Monkees
Characters: Mike Nesmith, Peter Tork, Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones
Rating: G
Mike gazed at the plate of cookies and the glass of milk, feeling a mild skepticism creeping over him. "Peter, you know there's no such thing as Santa Claus, don't you? And you know that, even if there was, he wouldn't bring presents to adults?"
"Of course." Peter smiled, undeterred.
"Then why are you leaving cookies out on Christmas Eve," Davy wondered, perplexed, "if you know there's no such thing?"
"Technically, there was a Saint Nicholas, in Turkey, several centuries ago," Peter pointed out, taking care that the plate and glass were just right as he set them down on the kitchen table. "So saying that there's no such thing is actually not true."
Micky nodded, sighing. "He does have a point, there," he admitted. "Still...it seems kinda silly to me." Mike and Davy were quick to concur.
"Look, guys; let me put it to you this way. Do you believe in Karma," Peter asked, looking each of them square in the face. When they gave him confused shrugs in reply, he continued: "I do. And there's no harm in putting something positive out in the universe. Give a little of it, just a little, and you'll be repaid. Maybe nobody's going to eat these cookies, or enjoy this milk. Maybe it'll all be spoiled when I wake up tomorrow morning. But I'll feel good, knowing that I did something nice. Good night." He smiled, and went to bed.
The remaining Monkees exchanged somewhat perplexed glances, before staring at the plate and glass again.
"Well, when it's put that way, I guess it kinda makes sense," Mike finally confessed. "Always good to have Karma on your side, right?"
Davy nodded. "I suppose so, yeah." He raised his eyebrows. "There wouldn't be any harm in leaving out carrots on the front walk, either. Not that any reindeer are going to be dropping by, or anything. But..."
"It's a thought," Micky agreed. "What have we got to lose?"
