Prompt: WIZARDING NUTCRACKER

Ginny said it started by accident.
A few years after the war, she and Luna had very little money and a habit of picking up odd things they did not need. One December, Luna came home from Diagon Alley with a wooden nutcracker tucked under her arm, painted bright blue and wearing a crooked wizard hat.
"He bites walnuts," Luna said cheerfully. "But only if they are polite."
Ginny laughed and wrapped it anyway.
George was the first to get it. He pulled the lever, the nutcracker's mouth snapped shut, and it sang a slightly off-key carol. George nearly cried laughing. By the end of the day, everyone wanted one.
So it became a thing.
By the time there were children in the family, the tradition was set.
Every Christmas after that, Ginny and Luna brought nutcrackers. Not ordinary ones. Wizarding ones. Each year, they were different.
One year, they arrived dressed like famous Hogwarts professors. Hugo's adjusted its spectacles when offended. Rose's refused to crack nuts unless the nut had been properly measured. Roxanne's sneezed glitter. Victoire and Dominique lined theirs up carefully, judging aesthetics.
The children crowded the mantel, arguing over favourites, pulling levers, feeding them nuts. Tiny mouths snapped. Little hats bobbed.
"Are they alive?" Hugo whispered once.
"Only a bit," Luna said. "Mostly when you are not looking."
On Christmas morning, the children went for the nutcrackers before the presents. The room filled with laughter and small wooden clicks.
Ginny leaned against Luna, watching.
"I cannot believe this stuck," Ginny said.
Luna smiled. Children are sticky. They stick to happy things."
