Neville woke to the soft sound of a tray being placed on the bed. The room felt warm, lit by the pale morning light coming through the curtains. For a
moment, Neville stayed still, remembering the previous night, the rush of heat and laughter, the way they had held on to each other as snow fell outside.
Charlie stood by the bedside, smiling in Neville's quiet, pleased way. "Good morning," Charlie said. "I thought you might like breakfast in bed."
On the tray sat toast, fruit, and Neville's large mug of hot chocolate. Floating in the mug was a tiny marshmallow snowman with a simple face drawn on it. The snowman leaned slightly to one
side, as if greeting Neville after a long night.
Neville pushed the blankets aside and sat up. "You made all this?"
"Of course," Charlie said. "It is Christmas. And after last night, I thought you deserved something sweet."
Neville picked up the mug, the warmth spreading through their hands. The marshmallow snowman bobbed gently. Neville could not help smiling. "Thank you. This is perfect."
Charlie sat down on the edge of the bed. Outside, soft flakes of snow began to fall again, quiet and steady, as if blessing the calm morning after their wild night.
