When Peter stepped in from the beach, his nose immediately crinkled at the acrid, harsh scent that filled the air.
"Why does it smell like burnt Christmas cookies in here," he asked.
Micky held up a cookie sheet. Various blackened shapes scattered across its metal surface, and thin wisps of smoke drifted from them.
"Because I just burned some Christmas cookies," he sighed.
Peter approached, examining with dismay the charred reindeer, snowmen, and angels. "Wow. These aren't burned, Micky; they're practically molten!"
"That's what I get for distracting myself by playing tug-of-war with some of the neighbor kids."
