Kurt smiled, his tongue pressing against the backs of his sharp fangs, as his long tail swished beneath the thick folds of his trench coat. He loved the hustle and bustle in small towns during the Christmas season. In big cities, like Salem Center, the crowds could be almost frightening, even for a mutant who was accustomed to fighting battles for people's very lives on a daily basis, but in a small town such as this, the atmosphere was warm and friendly. The few shouts did not seem angry or mean in any way but, sometimes, almost playful. His nose twitched as he enjoyed the smells of roasted breads, pork, dumplings, and fruit balls. He would certainly have to stop and get himself something to eat before bamfing home, but for now he simply moved from one little shop to the next, carefully procuring unique items for his dearest friends.

He'd done odd jobs and saved money all year long for this particular exercise. Every year was trying, but this year he was so very thankful to be alive and with friends and family, and actually considering asking a very special, unique woman to marry him, a lady who might actually say "ja" to his proposal now that they had finally defeated her mother and remained united in their life goals. He had often wondered if he actually wanted to stay with Amanda, but as strange as it sometimes seemed, he could think of no one else with whom he would want to grow old and have all his fur turn gray than with his dear, adopted sister. And now there was no wicked stepmother or Demons to remain standing in their way.

He had already picked him some unique items, including Amanda's ring, but he was far from done. Stepping into a cozy shop, Kurt's senses were assailed by warm aromas that both made his stomach growl, reminding him he had skipped breakfast that morning, and reminded him of the shops in the Harry Potter world. He abhorred the way that series had ended, but it had been a fun romp. The other readers would have loved a trip down this lane in his home country, he couldn't help thinking, and he couldn't help thinking that perhaps the author herself had spent some time in Germany. He could certainly see how these shops could have inspired Diagon Alley and the other such shops where the students had had to go every year to purchase their school supplies.

Perhaps, he thought, he should start coming to this very town himself every year for Christmas purchases. One certainly couldn't find the types of items he was discovering abroad. He smiled at the cuckoo clock out of which was popping a small dragon, a dragon which he could very easily paint purple. Kitty would absolutely adore that clock. He picked it up carefully and moved on to the next table. it was filled with dolls, one of which particularly spoke to him. She was woven, intricate, and had flaming red hair and bright, dazzling blue eyes, much like the beautiful love of his life. The doll would be the perfect companion to the Bamf doll, made in resemblance of himself, that he had given her years ago.

He grabbed it and headed to the counter, very, very pleased with himself and his purchases. And suddenly, he knew. He knew it was going to be a merry Christmas and he had made the right decisions. Amanda was going to say "ja", and they, like the dolls, would soon be starting the rest of their lifetime journey together. He was whistling a joyful tune when he left, an actual skip in his agile step matched with a rhythmic step in his tail, and this time, he headed for where he'd been smelling the sausage and bread all morning. He'd feast himself, and then return to finding the perfect gifts for his cherished friends and family. All while smiling, whistling, and all but dancing underneath the bright, warm light of the sun and in the open air and merry markets far away from the bustling, completely commercialized States.
