Title: 'The Holly Queen'
Fandom: Doctor Who
Characters: Eleventh Doctor, River Song
Rating: G
"That was terribly sweet," River mused, gazing lazily at the golden crown that rested nearby. It gleamed, dim light dancing off of every facet of the rubies that stood for berries, and the emeralds that had been carved into perfect imitations of holly leaves.
The Doctor grinned. "Well, I don't know if I'd call it sweet, exactly," he told her, watching the way the flickering firelight bounced and glinted off of the sequins in River's dress. "We just happened to be on this planet just in time for the locals to name their annual Holly Queen. I do happen to love that they chose you for that honor, and that the prize was a week's stay in this beautiful cabin during their winter festivals."
River smirked at him. "I wasn't referring to that, sweetie. I was talking about how you obviously bribed the judges into choosing me."
He gawked at her, looking offended. "I never! They came to that decision on their own. Unanimously! Besides, I never carry money. What would I have bribed them with? Although," he meekly admitted, "winter is a dangerous time for them. So I might have promised that we'd help with the annual Ikikeb invasion--"
Just outside, something whistled sharply, and a bolt was seen zipping to the ground.
"And that'll be them, now," he announced.
