December 19th: 'Christmas Vigil' (Inuyasha)
Title: 'Christmas Vigil'

Holding a finger to her lips, Kagome peered around the back of the couch. Her eyes scanned the dim room, which was lit only by a sparkly Christmas tree.
"Any sign of him yet," Shippō whispered to her, leaning in curiously. His gaze was a look of anxiety, eyes large.
"Not yet," Kagome replied softly.
Together, they kept their view solely on the chimney that rose beside the tree. It was dark and cold, the fire having been put out at bedtime, which had come hours ago. It shouldn't be too much longer...
"Hey! What're you two doin' outta bed?"
Twin screams filled the air: "Yyehhgahghagaaaahhh!" Kagome and Shippō clung to each other, staring at the source of the voice that had disrupted their vigil.
Inuyasha stood over them. He frowned down at the duo, arms folded across his chest, before crouching beside Kagome. "What's the big idea?"
"Inuyasha! You're so mean," Shippō protested.
Kagome felt her racing heart gradually begin to slow to a normal rate. "Why did you have to scare the living daylights out of us," she agreed.
"The living daylights, huh?" Inuyasha snorted, glancing at one of the windows. "That's quite a trick, at this time of night. Why are you up so late, anyway?"
"Not that it's any of your business," Shippō replied, looking away scornfully, "but we're waiting to spy on Santa."
"Oh, yeah? What makes you think he'll show up?"
Together, Kagome and Shippō stared at Inuyasha in a troubled silence.
"Are you saying that you don't believe in Santa Claus," Kagome whispered at last.
Inuyasha eyed her cautiously. "No, I'm not sayin' that," he hesitantly answered. "It's just...I thought he wasn't supposed to come 'till everyone was asleep. All that 'He sees you when you're sleeping' stuff, ya know? If you want Santa to come, then go back to bed, already! Besides, you're gonna be too tired out in the morning to unwrap your presents! You want that?"
Shippō sagged at Inuyasha's words. "Do you think he's right," he asked Kagome.
Trying to stifle a yawn, Kagome failed entirely at it. "I suppose he is. Come on, Shippō; let's go get some sleep."
Satisfied, Inuyasha watched them go. "That's more like it," he mumbled under his breath.
All the same, he couldn't help remaining behind the sofa for a while, wondering what he might see.
