Day 5: Jeeves & Wooster: Gen
Title: Silver & Gold

Prompt: Silver ornaments
Summary: Bertie is overwhelmed at a department store while buying Christmas gifts.
It was difficult to persevere, but the thought of the wrath of two gift-less aunts girded my loins. I swam upstream and floated downstream until I reached the counter I wanted.
A matronly soul seemed to understand the object of my quest and presented a selection of woolly mitts in an array of hues and patterns. As she laid the items out like fish on a market slab, I noticed the display behind her.
Silver balls tiled with a mosaic of mirrored squares. Shoes, tall heels, modest pumps, even men’s brogues, painted in gold, even a lady’s handbag, also gilded.
It was so bright, garish, alarming, I was briefly stunned.
But the glove lady knew her stuff, and she soon saw that I relieved her of a portion of her inventory. She asked me if I wanted my purchases wrapped.
What I did not want was to spend another moment in that place, but I saw the wisdom of getting a professional to do the trim.
Aunts appreciate presentation, or so I’ve learned.
I agreed, and she was quick enough.
Finally, like a robin with a pair of especially juicy worms in its beak, I flew back to the nest.
