Dolly Bantry joined her at the fireplace of the tearoom of Bertram’s Hotel. Red stockings hung from the mantelpiece.
“Look,” said Miss Marple, pointing to the name embroidered on the top white portion of one stocking.
“Julia,” read Dolly. “One of the staff?”
“But it wasn’t Julia at first.”
“I’m helpless anything involving yarn or thread.”
“It was Jude, then ripped out.”
“Jude the Obscured,” remarked Dolly.
“Just so. I wondered…”
“Scones go well with wondering. Come.”

Sherlock sniffed inquisitively. “Are we supposed to fill them?” Is she going to fill them? Or are they mere decoration?”
“Dunno. We’ll have to wait and see.”
