Micky sat back and smirked. "This is what you get for not believing me," he snickered into a mug of cocoa. He slurped up a marshmallow, sinking his teeth into the partly-melted, pillowy treat. "You could've taken my word for it. But I guess some people just won't be satisfied until they have enough proof."
From where they huddled together, wrapped in a few scratchy wool blankets, Peter and Davy glowered at him.
"You don't have to enjoy the fact that we were wrong," Davy grumbled, blowing into his hands. "We live on the bloody beach, for Heaven's sake! What else were we to think?"
"It's not our fault that we thought it was all relative," Peter agreed. "Anybody would've made the same assumption. The average non-Californian does all the time."
"Well, as the average native Californian," Micky smugly informed them, "the deepest recorded snowfall was in this state. And that white stuff in the mountains just outside of the city? I guess you just assumed that it was a giant's dandruff."
"Okay, we apologize," Davy snapped. "We're eating our words, and they're frozen solid! You told us the truth; it does get cold in California in December."
