“Why are you not at the feast?” I asked.
Fingon favored me with an unimpressed expression.
“Because you are not,” he said.
In truth, Turuhalmë never failed to make me a little melancholy. The feast marked the turn of the year, when the days began to lengthen, and so was called a festival of light. Yet half a year hence the days would grow shorter once more as darkness returned.
“There are some who can rejoice in light even as the shadow deepens, but not I,” I said, more tartly than Fingon deserved. He only smiled.
“I can,” he said.
